Some of the greatest new features being used in homes and businesses these days is the incorporation of river and swamp reclaimed wood such as pecky cypress and other sinker log wood. We’ve talked about the use of this reclaimed wood in some of our earlier blogs but because of the growing popularity and apparent staying power, we decided to share some additional information with you. After all, we are a full-service sinker log recovery and custom saw mill and a resident expert on the subject!

As you know, hardwood floors has been around for a long-time but today’s designs are using specialized wood like pecky cypress for ceilings, cabinets, wall features and more that have brought a whole new flair to otherwise ordinary design. Adding wood to a room automatically gives a feeling of warmth. Pairing this element with the unique characteristics that cypress and other sinker wood offers gives depth and interest. It’s aesthetically pleasing and can give immediate customization to any space. Here are some terrific examples of different applications of river and swamp recovered sinker cypress.

New homes are really capitalizing on this trend but that doesn’t mean you can’t apply these same fantastic looks to your existing home or business. Adding cypress or other river and swamp reclaimed wood into your current structure isn’t difficult and can completely transform the space but finding authentic sinker cypress can be tricky and isn’t always easily accessible.  Another fact worth noting is that many of the larger DIY stores are passing less expensive wood off as the real thing but don’t be fooled. There really isn’t a substitute for this unique product since once it’s all harvested from the river and swamp bottoms, it will no longer exist. These logs have been submerged since they were transported via waterways in the early 1800’s. They have been preserved by the cool temperatures of the water and strengthened which make them durable and a wise choice for all kinds of applications in the building industry. They were cut from trees that were over 700 to 1000 years old. We will never see this unique wood in our life-time again so not only do these sinker logs offer spectacular effects but they will be a coveted piece of history. Look for a reliable source that can provide you or your builder with true river and reclaimed wood.
